Gary has over 35 years of experience advising investment firms, companies, and executives on complex legal, transactional, and strategic matters.
Before joining Engine No. 1, Gary was a partner at the New York law firm Friedman Kaplan Seiler & Adelman LLP. He founded the firm’s Corporate Department in 1986 and led the development of its sophisticated and broad-based transactional and counseling practice. Gary’s clients included prominent firms and individuals in the investment management, intellectual property, and wireless industries as well as other major businesses in the US and abroad, for whom he was a trusted counselor for many years. He played a leading role in negotiating and advising on important M&A, joint venture and financing transactions, partnership formations and dissolutions, and sensitive corporate governance and compliance matters. Prior to joining Friedman Kaplan, Gary was a law clerk to the Hon. Pierre N. Leval in the Southern District of New York, and an associate in the Corporate Department of Debevoise & Plimpton in New York.
Gary received a BA in History from Yale University and a JD from Columbia Law School and is an elected member of The American Law Institute.
